NOTCH Festival fuses the frontier of Nordic audiovisual culture with China’s emerging local scene, triggering the experiment in “contemporizing the future” or “de-futurization”.
The theme of NOTCH08 is “Comma Coma”, i.e. “non-stop coma”, reflecting the overwhelming state in a year of natural disasters, stock market crisis and price increases of oil and food. How will we cope with it? Many people have no idea. NOTCH08 presents a vision that we should start reducing to lessen our burden to the fragile earth.
30 Nordic artists with multiple identities are selected as “evangelists” of NOTCH’s philosophy. The music spans across Free Jazz, Improvisation, Electro-acoustic, Psychedelic Folk, Sound Art, Avant Garde Rock, Indie Pop and Ambient/Minimal Techno.

Nils Petter Molvaer (N) Top trumpeter from Nordic, live lineup with one of the greatest guitarists Eivind Aarset and electronic master Jan Bang;
Shining (N) Free jazz clashed into black metal, completely over the top of the music;
Efterklang (DK) Fairytale epic, reverb from Copenhagen;
Diskjokke (N) Holiday electronica disc jockey.
China:
Li Tieqiao composer and saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist;
Sulumi mastermind behind shanshui records, chiptune nanoloop;
Dead J, new generation of electronica in China;
The Wedding Beast, new rising experimental force, from post rock to analogue/digital acoustic free flow;
Long2, VJ, digital image designer.
